Frequently Asked QuestionsWhich is better, fixed price or an hourly rate?
A fixed price quote allows for unforeseen delays and difficulties involved in a move. Therefore, a fixed price quote, at times, may be higher than a hourly quote for the same job. When you pay by the hour, you only pay us for as long as you need us.
The number one source of all disputes in this industry is ‘fixed price’ quotes. A few points to remeber when going for a fixed price quote are:

  • Get a copy of the inventory.
  • Check and double check to make sure every single item is listed.
  • Make sure that the moving company checks access at uplift and delivery addresses.
  • Ensure that extras like dismantling/reassembling furniture and effects are included in the price to avoid surprises later.

For local moves, we say hourly rate is the best, most cost effective way to move.

Are we insured?
Aussie Removals & Transport are not licensed to sell furniture removal or storage insurance to our customers. We are a professional removal company who will take every care with your furniture. We do guarantee that if we damage it we will fix it. However we cannot guarantee the internal workings of electrical appliances, self-assembled furniture, boxes not packed by us, potted plants and fragile items (glass etc.) not packaged properly.

Do you have a minimum charge?
For smaller jobs, we do not have a minimum charge. For larger jobs and weekends, we charge a minimum of 2 hrs, then by the 1/4 hour thereafter.

How long does the average move take?
This is a tough question as every job is different. There are several factors on which the time taken depends. A rule of thumb is that big houses (3 to 4 bedrooms +) take the best part of a day, small houses (1 to 2 bedrooms) take about half a day.
Factors that affect time taken for picking and delivery are:

  • Access at uplift and delivery addresses.
  • Steep driveways, stairs and long distances from the home to parking.
  • Incomplete or incorrect packing.

The secret to a fast and efficient move is to be well organized and have everything packed and prepared for transport. Having the correct packaging material makes packing easier, safer and also ensures that your items are safe during transport.

Do you charge travel time?
Yes, we do charge travel time from and to the nearest depot. However, we do cap charges at ½ hr each way. Talk to your removalist for more details.

Do you dismantle furniture?
Yes we carry tool kits on all our trucks. We can dismantle/reassemble beds, bunks, and desks, swing sets, trampolines, disconnect washing machines and take dryers off the wall.

What if I need to cancel?
We understand that your situation may change at late notice. However, we request that you please give us as much notice as possible.

How do I know how many men I need?
We can advise you on the number of staff required to do a complete move (and unpack if requested) based on the size of the move.

Will the staff follow my directions?
Our staff are experienced professionals. We feel a great sense of satisfaction when we do the job right.

Should I be there on the day?
It is really up to you. You can leave it to our experienced and careful staff to ensure that the picking and unloading is done efficiently. We ask you for a contact number and can call you if necessary.

What happens to all the paper and boxes?
We are happy to take away used packing boxes and paper. The delivery team will take as much as possible with them on the truck on delivery day. After delivery, we will work with you to decide a convenient day and time for someone to come and pick up the rest of the boxes.

Do you move pianos & pool tables?
Moving pianos & pool tables require experts with years of training. We do have this expertise, and we are happy to help you move these precious items.
