MOVING HINTS for your home or office move
Packing guide & moving checklist for a hassle-free move!
Cardboard moving / packing boxes
The first, vitally important thing is to choose your packing supplies carefully. It is definitely worth the small expense to buy boxes specifically designed for moving – they are stronger and are designed to absorb the impact of the knocks and bumps.
Use moving boxes of similar size and shape – this will assist the removalists to load efficiently e.g. if you have a lot of really small boxes – pack them into a larger box.
Fill boxes so they are completely full but not spilling out of the top of the box – the lid of the box should sit flat!
Use quality packing tape
Top quality packing tape is a must!
Cheaper tapes do not stick for long and you run the risk of the bottom of the box letting go as they are carried in and out of your house.
Our packing guide is always tape the top and bottom of your moving boxes.
How to wrap fragile items for moving
Wrap fragile items with bubble wrap or plenty of butcher's paper is ideal as it is clean (wrapping with newspaper can leave print on your items).
Use soft linen and butcher's paper to fill any voids in the box.
It is recommended to also mark the box with fluorescent 'fragile' labelled packing tape.
How to pack books and other heavy items for moving
The ideal size moving box for heavier items like books, records and tins of food is a book & wine box.
Use fillers such as butcher's paper or linen to fill any voids.
How to pack bulky items for moving
Use tea chest size cardboard boxes for bulky items such as dinner sets, pots & pans, lamps and plastic storage containers.
Our moving hint is to use fillers such as butcher's paper or linen to fill any voids.
Label your moving boxes & cartons
Clearly label the boxes with the room they will be going into when you get to your new home or office.
Furniture placement by your removalist
Some furniture can be heavy and awkward to carry. As your furniture is unloaded off the truck, be available to tell your removalists which room it is to be carried in to. If you want it in a specific spot in the room, please lead the way to the room to show them.
